The 26th Conference of the Parties (COP 26) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) concluded its meeting in Glasgow, United Kingdom with the adoption of the Glasgow Climate Pact (GCP). The GCP makes a demand of signatory countries increase climate ambition and action from the Paris Agreement in 2015 and set out new rules to reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GHG) including phasing down coal and a global carbon market.
The COP26 and its attendant Sessions afforded Nigerian Delegation an opportunity to join other Countries in negotiations, showcasing the many ambitious adaptation and mitigation initiatives being implemented in Nigeria.
One of the key actions for Nigeria after a successful participation at the COP 26 in Glasgow is to develop a Roadmap for the implementation of the outcomes of the COP26. The major step involved in this process will involve engaging stakeholders in the analysis of the decisions of the COP. These discussions is expected to largely focus on implications of the GCP and the trend of negotiations in terms of obligations and opportunities it presents to Nigeria.
In light of the above, The Feederal Ministry of Environment is engaging Key Stakeholder in the implementation of National Climate Actions Stakeholder’s Consultative meeting scheduled to take place on 16th December, 2021 by 10am at Rockview Hotel Royal Wuse II, Abuja.
This event aims at engaging invited Stakeholders from Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), Private Sector, Media, Academia and Youth in developing a Roadmap for the implementation of the outcomes of Negotiations at the COP 26.
