Multisectoral dialogues on climate change adaptation have been completed in Turkmenistan

Turkmenistan has completed a series of dialogues on climate change adaptation.  The discussions took place within the framework of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)/Green Climate Fund (GCF) project “Development of the national Adaptation Planning Process in Turkmenistan”, jointly with the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan.

The dialogues were held from December 2022 to February 2025 in close cooperation with the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan. They brought together representatives of government agencies, the private sector, academia and public organizations.

The discussions provided stakeholders with an important platform for exchanging views and coordinating efforts to address climate change adaptation issues. The main discussions focused on policy integration, climate finance and insurance mechanisms, sustainable business practices, and community-led adaptation initiatives.

The platform has successfully achieved its key results, including strengthening partnerships between Government, the private sector and civil society to increase resilience to climate change; developing effective strategies for climate change adaptation and investment policies; identifying financing opportunities and innovative solutions for business communities; strengthening commitment to continuous collaboration and knowledge sharing to maintain momentum and going beyond the dialogs.

During the final dialogue, which took place on February 6, 2025 in the building of the UN Office in Ashgabat, the participants discussed intersectoral cooperation on climate change adaptation in agricultural territories of Turkmenistan. The parties confirmed their commitment to cooperation, and the findings will be taken into account in future climate policies and initiatives.
