Economic Futures: Climate Change and Modernity.

In this upcoming talk, Professor Ruth Irwin will be examining histories of alternative economic theories. For many years, Irwin has been researching the connection between the economy and climate change, drawing on a great range of ideas: post-colonialism, historic financial practices, and the philosophy of Martin Heidegger.

She will be drawing on her new book Economic Futures: Climate Change and Modernity, which seeks to develop a new basis for economic theory by emphasising the integration of humanity and the environment. In doing so, she questions the philosophy of time, the origins of debt and interest, and historic methods of avoiding exponential economic growth.
